How do I Adjust The String Action(Height) On An Acoustic Guitar?

Im trying to lower the string height on my little cousin's acoustic guitar. But the problem is I don't know how.My cousin says it hurts her fingers.
So do I adjust the truss rod? If I do....well I don't see that covering that is at the headstock to adjust it.
Can someone help me please

It's done by filing down the bridge at the headstock. If you're having trouble, you should be able to take it to your local guitar store and have them do it, usually quickly and inexpensively.
