]]> There is an assortment of methods for learning to play the guitar and you need to choose the method that will work best for you.

1. Traditional

Generally starts off by teaching the basics of notation (reading music). Learning to read and play simple melodies progresses to bass string accompaniments and simple duets using a limited selection of notes, which is what you need as a beginner. The advantage of this method is that it is always taught in tandem with learning to read music; the best way to learn to read music is by doing it in conjunction with learning an instrument. Also, reading and understanding notation will transfer to any subsequent musical instrument.

2. Folk

This method leans towards a chordal approach, that is, learning to play a collection of notes together (a chord) and using various strumming patterns to accompany a song. Sometimes this approach may include some notation reading, but it is generally aimed at the student who does not want to learn how to read music.
Personally, I feel that such an approach is missing an opportunity to learn and understand notation. A traditional approach will lead naturally to learning chords anyway. You can always teach yourself chords from a chord dictionary if you want to combine two approaches.

3. Tablature

This method teaches through a pictorial representation of the strings showing where to put your fingers.

1 --0----------------------------
2 --1----------------------------
3 --0----------------------------
4 --2----------------------------
5 --3----------------------------
6 -------------------------------

This picture means you fret:

the 2nd string at the 1st fret
the 4th string at the 2nd fret and
the 5th string at the third fret
1st and 3rd strings are left open or unfretted.

This is, perhaps, too complex a method for the beginner to grasp. It can be used to enhance the playing of a more experienced guitar player.

Guitar Lessons

When learning to play any musical instrument, it is always a good idea to at least start off by having some lessons from an experienced tutor, if only to avoid getting into bad habits. A good teacher will advise about style, technique, notation, posture, phrasing and guitar care. As you progress you may need to find a teacher attuned to your own particular needs and tastes, but at the beginning of the learning experience, the aims will be the same, to get the basics of the instrument sorted out and to achieve results that are pleasing.

Buying Fender Acoustic Guitars Safely Online

When you're seeking Fender acoustic guitars to buy online, it's important that you don't get ripped off. What this means for you is, on the one hand you do want to find the best deal and the Internet is a great way of doing that; but on the other hand, you might end up buying a Fender acoustic that you never tried out, plus you need to remember that when it comes to musical instruments you get what you pay for. You may get a lot more than you pay for if you shop at an online auction site such as eBay, and they provide ways to minimize the risk of being ripped off. If you choose eBay, always check the seller's rating. A seller with a high seller rating is just as safe as shopping at a retailer with a high reputation.

Needless to say, one pretty safe way of shopping online for Fender acoustic guitars is to go to the Fender website. If you do this, you can search for Fender-approved dealers in your local area that you can visit either online or in person. You really don't have to worry much about getting ripped off by these guys. However, keep in mind the rule of thumb that under normal circumstances you don't want to buy an acoustic guitar for less than $400. You can find plenty of them that are less than that, but they are not of high quality construction or design--not even if they do say "Fender". You will be compromising sound and physical playing quality by going cheap. However, there are ways of going cheap on price without going cheap on quality.

Now, you can find good Fender acoustic guitars online for under $400, but you have to take some special steps. One of these would be to shop at eBay or another online auction house. Allthough you do have to act with caution when shopping online, eBay remains one of the safest online auction market places on the internet. Use common sense, and you won't have too much to worry about. Another method is to do an Internet lookup for individuals selling a Fender acoustic guitar. You can check online classified ads, Craig's List, and so forth. But once again, you run the risk of paying more for something than you should while trying to save money--and that means you would probably end up getting ripped off, either by accident by some ignorant person or on purpose by some low-life person. So eBay is probably a better idea, as eBay has a seller rating system so you can know that you are shopping from a seller with a high approval rating.

If you are looking for an unused guitar, you may want to check out some other places as well; if nothing else just to compare prices. Musician's Friend is a good site for this. They are like a huge musical instrument and equipment warehouse, and because they have so much volume they can sell most of their merchandise for less than the manufacturer's suggested retail price. There are also plenty of hands-on reviews of instruments and equipment at their website. They will ship what you buy right to your door. And sometimes, they give you free shipping. Check it out as they are known for low prices on new guitars. If you find a cheaper one of a similar model on eBay, you know that you are getting a good price. Give it some time, and check eBay again. You may find a better price in a week or a month. Otherwise, you can be confident that you are getting a good price on Musician's Friend.

Take your time, shop around, compare prices. It is the only way you can know that you got a good price on your Fender Acoustic Guitar.

i just started playing and the tabs on guitar pro are a little tough. i need something easy to start off with, any pointers?
also, what is a really good starting song for a beginner? maybe more than one song...

The Anatomy of Guitars

Guitars are generally made keeping in mind both the right handed and left handed players. Conventionally it is the dominant hand which is assigned the task of plucking or strumming the strings of the guitar. For the majority of people the dominant hand is the right hand.

Anatomy of Guitars is a required study for both the novice as well as experienced players to truly utilize this powerful musical instrument. Musical expression, tonal expression and dynamics etc are mainly determined by the plucking hand. The fretting hand is given the less significant mechanical task of gripping the strings.

Anatomy of Guitars include

Headstock, Nut, Neck joint or Heel, Strings, Body (acoustic guitar), Body (electric guitar), Pickups Lining, Binding, Purfling, Bridge, Pickguard, Neck, Electronics, Vibrato Arm, Fretboard, Frets, Truss rod, Inlays, Tuning

Identifying the Parts

Head Stock
It is the top part of this anatomy study, which bears the tuners.

Tuners
Tuners are positioned on the headstock of the instrument(top of the guitar). Tuners are the tools to tune the guitar. Fine tuners are also to be found on guitars with Floyd Rose systems

Nut
The nut is positioned just below the headstock of the guitar. The strings go through this right before the tuning keys.

Frets
Frets can be found on the guitar's neck. 22 to 24 frets are found normally.

Neck
The neck of a guitar is the place to rest the hand to fret chords, play scales etc. There are some necks on the anatomy of guitars, which are set before and others like a Fender Strat have the bolt on.

Position Markers
There are some dots on the guitar fretboard. They are called the Position markers used for easy reference, located typically on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th, 15th, 17th, 19th and 21st frets. Sometimes they can be on the side of the neck.

Sound Hole
The sound hole can be found on the top center of the body of an acoustic or acoustic electric guitar. The sound comes out from this hole.

Body
The body of the guitar is the base anatomy of guitars; it is the structure to hold.

Pickups
The electrical sound on an electric guitar and acoustic electric are produced by the pickups. Magnet constitutes the pickup of the guitar strings vibration and helps in generating the sound out of the amplifier.

PickGuard
PickGuard protects the guitar from scratches and other harms. Other use of pickguard for instance is to hold the pickups, knobs etc. But this is true on some guitars like the fender stratocaster etc.

Saddle
The saddle is situated on an acoustic guitars bridge. It is made of plastic, bone etc. On an electric guitar the bridge saddles is used to attune the height of the strings, set intonation and more.

Bridge
A guitars bridge is positioned at the bottom of a guitar where the strings are attached. Pegs hold on to the acoustic guitar strings and keep it attached.

Output Jack
The place to plug in the guitar cable is coming from an amplifier. Most of the time, it is an inch long.

Acoustic and electric guitars share many parts in common. They all have a body, neck, fretboard, and headstock as a total anatomy of guitars.

In guitar amps, is it possible to hook up a head that has more watts than the cab with each other?

you can do, but as a rule of thumb the amp should be max 2/3rds of the max power rating of the speakers, to avoid any damage.

just be careful not to turn the amp over 3/4 of the way up, or you can get a hot plate from most companies which act as an attentuator and allow the amp to be run at full (giving you all of that lovely distortion) but the speakers only see a percentage of the juice!
