Schecter Omen

are schecter guitars good?

I just bought a schecter omen 6.
just for a guitar on the side.

and i like it actually.. alot.
just wondering what other peoples thought are on it.

Every Schecter I've ever played has been nice and has had a good sound/feel. I prefer my Gibson Les Paul because I'm old-school, but hey -- Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits played Scheters exclusively for years (and still plays them).

If You Think You Know How to Practice, Practice This

I don't think there is any mystery to practicing the guitar. If you surf the internet for tips on "how to practice the guitar", than you might get dizzy. The amount of websites gracing us with their special practice methods on how to shred or play like Jimi Hendrix in 2 weeks is overwhelming and confusing, to say the least.

Do you think that any of the great guitarists, athletes or actors just woke up one day and had these super human skills? Probably not. Talent level aside. Simply put, all elite guitarists, athletes, etc. do have a few things in common even if their abilities differ somewhat. Practice. Hit the grindstone, go to the woodshed.

They work, or to be more precise, practice, practice and more practice. One grows by increasing knowledge input at a slow pace, while practicing each piece of knowledge until perfect. It is not a competition or race, so no matter how long it takes to master something, keep practicing until it is mastered. Enjoy the experience. It's not that bad!

Logically speaking, of course, we recommend starting with easy learnable assignments. Mastering an assignment builds happiness and confidence. These are two essential ingredients to success. You must enjoy your chosen art, in this case the guitar, and you must build confidence.

Michael Jordan was the greatest talent in basketball, ever. You may not want to believe it, but it's true. He also had a reputation as the most intensely ferocious person on court during practice. He always pushed the other team mates too the limit. It made them better too.

What do you think Steve Vai did all day while developing into one of the greatest guitarists ever. Steve(Vai is obviously a genius and graduate of The Berklee School of Music. If you could ask Frank Zappa about Steve Vai's intelligence level, assuming he was alive. Vai was transcribing music for Zappa when Vai was fourteen years old). What do you think he would say?

That being said, the most important part of practicing is having the time and desire to go over certain pieces of musical information until you get it. It is a discipline that requires lots of practice time. It's comical to even think of practicing during a recital or gig or basketball game. Gametime, recital time or gig time is time when you play by instinct. No practicing at those times. Period.

My point is that a lot of time is going to be consumed practicing the guitar. I read (and saved it, but can't find it) a reprint of a Stevie Vai practice session in Guitar World about 2 years ago. It was a ten (10) hour/per day practice. Broken down into steps, from warming up through different left and right hand techniques and exercises, to the mental part of transforming it into muscle memory.

Without complications I hope to have conveyed to you in this article that in order to be a top-notch guitar player, be prepared to do it the old fashioned way. Lots of practice. There is no magic formula, unless you are a Voodoochild, or went to the Crossroads to get on your knees!

Would any celluose lacquer spray work on a guitar?

I'm looking to do a guitar project which involves repainting the thing and was just wondering if the gloss finish had to be a nitrose celluose spray. Thanks in advance.

You could use nitrocellulose, lacquer, or enamel for a gloss finish. All will work.

Can I change out the pickups in my bass for another set?

I have a Schecter Diamond Series bass, 4 string, and I'd like to change the pickups. There are screws on the side but I haven't found any place that said specifically that buying new pickups and replace these. I'd like to have passive pickups instead of actives... am I going to have to buy another bass? Or can I use my current bass and just replace the pickups? I really enjoy the feel of the bass, but the sound that comes out is horrible sounding.

You don't say what your setup is, or what music you play, but it may not be the pickups. If you need a solid deep smooth sound, maybe you need to try nylon wound strings, and/or a larger bass driver, like an 18" Goodman. If you need a high, crisp bass sound, maybe you need a 4-10 or 8-10 cabinet with standard strings. Try another amp or two with different speakers before you do anything like changing pick-ups. I couldn't imagine changing mine when I played except one died.

A Brief History of Schecter Guitars

Schecter Guitar Research is another guitar manufacturer that creates quality guitars for musicians, and they boast an impressive list of professional players who love their instruments. Though the company officially started manufacturing guitars in 1989, they were in business long before that manufacturing replacement guitar parts for guitars such as Fenders and Gibsons. The company also changed ownership in 1989, around the time when they started manufacturing their own guitars.

Schecter Guitar Research has its beginnings in the United States. They ve had locations in both California and Texas over the course of the history of their company. However, some of their guitars are currently being manufactured in South Korea, their less expensive models and the custom models, are made in California. The website comes equipped with a feature that lets you make your customized guitar orders. They also include some interesting examples of custom guitars.

In terms of their guitars, they have a certain sound that lends themselves nicely to hard rock and metal music. Their electric guitars have a heavy, rich tone that the harder rock artists prefer. However, they do have a line of guitars that appeals to both jazz and blues players.

Some of their guitars closely resemble certain Fender and Gibson models, such as the Stratocaster (Fender) and the Les Paul (Gibson). Though the company is small, the actually have a wide range of guitars that appeal to different artists.

About the Schecter S-1 Blackjack

This sounds just like any SG I have ever played, but even better. The guitar has some serious tone, the pickups sound awesome. The coil- splitter feature is really cool. This guitar is extremely versatile, you can get some kick ass jazz or blues sounds, and its even a great metal guitar. I play stuff like Alice in Chains, Kyuss, Black Sabbath and its perfect. This is a monster. 10. Overall, this is the best guitar avaliable for under $700. I have a feeling it would still sell if it was 1000+. Schecter has created one of those hidden gems, you should go buy one of these immediately. If this guitar was stolen or lost I would buy another one in a heartbeat, or I might try out the Schecter S-1 Elite. I play through a Fender Hot Rod Deville 4X10, with a Boss DS-1, and a Dunlop Crybaby. I am planning on having this guitar for a very long time.

What case should i buy for a Schecter Hellraiser c1 FR?

Does it fit in a Fender case or what?
i dont want to buy a Schecter hard case
(the reviews were harsh)
and i dont want to pay alot.
Whats a good generic brand?

I've had my Schecter Damien 6 for quite some time now...Still haven't found a hardcase for it yet, but I keep it on display most the time anyway : P

You're best bet is to check Musician's Friend for a good case. If you don't buy a "model specific" case, you might have trouble fitting your guitar into it. But, I hear some people just pull back the lining of the case and carve out the foam liner to match their guitar.
