Dimebag Darrell Guitar

If they made a movie about Pantera guitarist, Dimebag Darrell, who would you want to see portray him?

Not that he has to be any good at guitar. I'm sure for something like this they would overdub the guitar sounds for the actor. But what are some choices for actors who you could see playing the late Dimebag Darrell?

I might say Evan Jones (8 Mile). Not only does he look like Dimebag, but he can be funny and keep it serious too. That might be a good choice in my opinion...

I must say, when i read your suggestion about Evan Jones I had to think for a minute just to remember who he was. So I looked him up and to be honest I think you answered your own question. He resembles Dime more than Vinnie does!!!! But to be fair I paused the "One" Video and yeah I see the point there too.

But still, (and yes, I'm a huge 'Tallica fan) That was James over 20 years ago. And as cool as it would be I don't expect him to take the time necessary to do a film. I say we get Evan Jones to play Dime and get Het to coach him on being a rock god.

I can't see Jack Black playing dime, Maybe Vinnie. I honestly like him for what he does, but I don't think JB would be a good fit if you wanted the film to be taken seriously.

Master How to Play Chords on Your Guitar

As much as many of us want to learn how to play a guitar there are some of us who are unable to pay someone to teach us. Times are tough right now and we have to worry about more important things like bills and food. So why not teach yourself? C’mon you can do it! Teaching yourself to play guitar requires more patience then if you were going through a teacher and it requires much discipline. But if you are truly motivated to learn then you can overcome any obstacle and do it.

When learning how to play the guitar one of the first things you will want to learn is how to play the guitar chords. Guitar chords are three or more notes that are played at the same time. There are a variety of chords that are placed into two different categories; minor and major chords.

When it comes to the guitar there are 5 basic major chord patterns. The primary chord patterns are C, A, G, E, and D. To help you remember them just put them together and remember the word they spell CAGED. The other chords that you will learn will come from these chord patterns so remember them well.

CAGED is a system of fretboard patterns for scales, chords, and arpeggios. The C, A, G, E, and D basic chord patterns are only your first step to the CAGED system - but it is the most important step. Master it and you will be able to easier learn scale, chord, and arpeggio which all come from these five patterns.

Find yourself a chord diagram that you can use and stick with it. Try to practice it until you are able to read it without any problems and then try to add on to it or choose another diagram that you can learn from. I know that you don’t yet know how to read a chord diagram - but just be patient and we can show you how to do just that.

The grid of the diagram is a representation of the neck of your guitar. The vertical lines represent the strings and the horizontal lines represent the frets. The vertical line all the way on the left or the largest one is the 6th string and the one all the way on the right or the smallest one is the 1st string.

The black dots with numbers on them are a representation of your fingers and which fret you are to put it on. If the black dot had a one in it then you would use your first finger, number two would be your second finger, and so on from there. Keep in mind that your pinky is represented as your fourth finger. Now you are going to place your fingers in the correct position that the diagram is telling you to.

The circles and the X’s on top of the diagram grid are easy to remember. When there is an X above a string it means that you are not to play that string. A circle above the string means that it is opened and that you don’t need your fingers.

Remember that it is going to take you some time to get the hang of it. Don’t expect to get it down in one sitting. Be patient with yourself and with how you learn and before you know it you will have it down to a science!

The only black guitar strings you'll find are a type of nylon acoustic guitar treble strings. As the name implies these are suitable only for nylon stringed (classical) acoustic guitars.

Otherwise do what guitar players do, use the strings that are best suited to your instrument. Electric guitar strings are different from acoustic steel strings ... and none of these are found in black

The easiest instruments to play have somewhat lighter strings and a good set up (the guitar is well adjusted). This goes for acoustic as well as electric guitars.

When I was young, my parents bought me a Spanish Guitar. We lived in a small town; there were no music teachers locally, so once a week my parents paid for a musician to come to our house. He had to travel by public transport for 45 minutes. Every Monday at 5 pm he would come, a very tall, lanky man with a long black coat and a black fedora. He was sort of a scary man to look at, looked like an undertaker. But he was a good teacher. At 6 pm he would leave again to travel back home for 45 minutes.

My job was to practice that week what he taught me during that hour. And the next week I would have to show him how I improved. It was never good enough. And no wonder, in order to make progress, you need to practice a lot, but only if you do things correctly will you progress. My parents were unable to help me because neither one of them played any musical instrument. I liked the music of an acoustic guitar and eventually I could play some tunes.

Nowadays it is so much easier to learn to play the guitar, even if you live in a small isolated town with no local teachers. You can buy guitar lessons online. You have access to an instructor on video and you will be shown exactly how to play. The best part of it is that you can play the video over and over again, follow the example and learn till you get it right.

I appreciated what my parents did for me, and I am sure it was not easy for them to afford those lessons. Today’s lessons online are very affordable and a very good value. There are several online sites available and personally I like Guitar Hotshot.

Whether you are a beginner who wants to learn the basics or an experienced player who wants to expand his or her horizon, Guitar HotShot is simply the best tool online for guitar.

Top 10 Rock Guitar Intros Of A Soul Fan

What makes a great guitar intro? Could its success be judged by the instantaneous effect it has on its listener, like the instinctive nodding to the rhythm? Or should a good opening riff trigger the overwhelming compulsion to play air guitar, accompanied by face contortions and an affirmative “yeah?”

Born in the late 1960s, I was just a child when the world lost the musical talent of Jimi Hendrix. Decades later, my children know his name and recognise his songs just by the opening chords.

My family has always had a great appreciation of music. My mother’s younger brothers and sisters were a huge influence on my interests. One of them was a friend to a Motown legend. Another proudly claims that he and his friends helped carry the kit of probably the greatest Reggae band ever, into their concert venue in London.

My first love is Soul music but I am a big fan of many other genres.

Bob Marley’s music moves me and Jimi Hendrix’s guitar playing gives me goose bumps. The Doors were way-ahead of their time and for chilling out, there’s none smoother than Frank Sinatra. As for Elvis…the king, need I say more!

However, when talking of the instruments that make the music, my favourite by far, has to be the guitar. The mid-way riff of “All Along the Watchtower” is magical, while the solo in Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” is nothing short of fantastic. Brilliant rock guitar provides the burst of energy during the tempo change in Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and the string bending of Santana’s “Black Magic Woman” is captivating.

Back to the guitar intro, it is this opening sequence of chords that has made some songs famous and instantly recognisable throughout the decades. TV and film has used the guitar intro to dynamic effect. I remember Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild” starting just as Crockett hit the throttle of his Ferrari Daytona in Miami Vice. In Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas, Robert De Niro’s character decides the ill-fate of a fellow gangster and his dastardly smile is complemented perfectly by the intro from Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love” – genius!

Compiling a list of my top ten guitar intros was harder than I thought. There are so many brilliant pieces of music that it could easily have been a top 20, 30 or more.
