Soundhole Pickup

Soundhole Pickup
guitar soundhole pickup question!?

i would like to ask this: since a soundhole pickup without a condenser mic would be quite similar in structure to an electric guitar pickup, would it function like an electric guitar if i use electric guitar strings and run it through an electric guitar amplifier? im asking about the soundhole pickup, not piezo pickup. if so, then i could just buy an aoustic guitar with a cutaway and a soundhole pickup, amplifier, nickel strings ,etc instead of buying an electric guitar. and perhaps i could also install a humbucker to the body for the sound of a hollowbody electric. thanks in advance for great answers.

Both the first 2 answers are correct.

Most bronze strings won't work on a guitar with a soundhole pickup, they are designed for "magnetic/electric" strings.
Another issue, electric guitars use lighter strings, because the pickups do most of the work.
Acoustics use a little heavier string, becase you need more string to "drive the body", to get a decent sound out it.
Light electric strings, will sound very wimpy on an acoustic.

If you want to use a sound hole pickup, OK, but remember it will never sound like an electric guitar.
It will also have feedback problems if you turn it up very much.

It would be expensive to do a good humbucker install, in an acoustic, you will probably ruin the value of the guitar, and feedback will still be an issue.

Decide which you need/want first, you'll eventually want one of each.

I find that I play the same song differently, when I play it on my electric, or my acoustic !

Different guitars are like different, tools, use the correct tool if you want the right sound.
