How do i get distortion on my guitar?

First guitar for me
and my amp doesnt have an overdrive or gain button
it just has volume,bass, treble, middle, and mid-frequency buttons

It's true as someone else have said that overdrive and distortion is really, or at least should be considered, two different things. In theory, overdrive is the sound of the tubes on a tube amp being saturated (driven to distort/into overdrive).

Distortion is commonly considered to be produced by a distortion device (most commonly a distortion pedal) placed in the signal chain, or a built in distortion effect.

There are two types of internal (built in) or external (pedals) effects in use. Distortion effects are the "fuzz" type. Then you have what may be called overdrive, which either is used to help push a tube amp to overdrive, or to emulate the sound of a saturated tube amp.

On a tube amp with a separate preamp control, you can crank up the preamp tube/s, and still keep the volume down - since the output tubes may independently be delivering less power/lower volume. This gives a somewhat less desired overdrive (the preamp tubes).

On a tube amp which only controls the output volume, you will have to drive the output tubes to produce overdrive. This means loud (with a capital L) on most real tube amps. However, this is also the sound that is perhaps most "musical" and sought after.

You will have to test out both types of effect and various brands of pedals and amps to find something that suites your taste.

Guitar Effects - Distortion

A Distortion pedal functions by ... well, by "distorting" the original sound wave. Some characteristics of a sound wave are a certain shape, a certain amplitude, and a certain frequency. A distortion pedal will distort some or all of these characteristics by electronic manipulation to achieve the desired distorted tone.

Typically distorted sound is "dirtier" than the original "clean" sound. If you're playing "edgy music" ... rock, hard rock, grunge, metal, things like that ... you're probably seeking a distorted sound.

While current distortion pedals manipulate the tone through solid-state electronics (most often -- some pedals use tubes, but these are most effective in "overdrive" pedals), musicians in the pre-pedal world often used damaged equipment -- amplifiers with bad or missing tubes, speakers cut with slits or tears, etc -- to achieve a distorted sound!

A distortion pedal and a "fuzz" box are basically the same thing -- both distort the original clean signal. The difference between the two is the degree and character of the distortion.

You probably do not need both a fuzz and a distortion pedal. But ... depending on the style of music you're seeking -- you'll find that one works better for you than the other. The only way to determine which is best for you is to take some time at your local music store and try several pedals.

Distorted guitar offers a thicker and heavier "base" -- a single guitar can provide a solid backing for a tune. Distortion also leads to greater sustain and can feedback in a pleasing manner. Distortion is most commonly used for solo guitar ... but is also effective when using power chords. However, fully voiced chords quite often lose their punch when distorted. Distortion can also be effective for bass guitar ... although you will generally use a pedal specifically designed for a bass.

I got up this morning after I "Stayed awake all night" to be sure that I am "Taking care of business." When Friday comes I see my bosses check and say to him, "Gimme your money please." I try to take naps at my desk and I say to myself, "Don't get yourself in trouble." At the end of the day my co workers brag about how little work they have done and I say "You aint seen nothing yet". The guys complain about how cold the weather is outside and I say "Take it like a man". When people walk by me I say "Hey you". How do i make a overdrive sound from a distortion pedal?

i bought a distortion pedal from cosmos and the guy in the store said i can get an overdrive sound from this boss ds1 distortion pedal but later after memorizing some tabs i don't know how to do it what would you suggest to get overdrive from a distortion pedal

The primary use of the Boss DS-1 is to get an overdriven guitar sound.

Without knowing just how familiar you are with the guitar and/or pedals:

Connect your electric guitar into the IN side of the pedal using a standard 1/4 inch instrument cable. Connect the OUT side of the pedal to your amplifier.

Turn the LEVEL knob on the pedal all the way down.

Turn the DIST knob all the way up.

Now slowly bring the LEVEL knob up to a reasonable listening level and you should hear a very distorted guitar sound.

Cut back on the DIST for less distortion, if it is too much at full blast.

Guitar Effects Pedals

If you are serious about the guitar then you may want to consider investing in guitar effects. Guitar effects pedals come in lots of different shapes and sizes. Their main use is to change the way your guitar sounds.

There are thousands of different guitar effects pedals to choose from some new some rare and old – some create sounds that alters your guitar sound so much it is almost unrecognisable as a guitar sound.

Guitar effects pedals come in many different formats. You can get he single effects units – often called stomp boxes and chain them together or you can opt for a multi effects unit that combines lots of effects in one box. There are also other formats such as rack mounted effects units and processors.

For the purpose of this article I am going to illustrate a couple of the most commonly used guitar effects pedals that I consider an essential. I personally use these pedals. These can be easily chained together in whatever way you choose and changed to get the sound that you want from your guitar.

Distortion / overdrive pedals

Whilst the above is in fact two separate pedals the effect they produce are similar. I personally own a distortion pedal but tend to use the amplifiers overdrive effect to get the sound I want.. Basically they take your clean sound and convert it to an overdriven or distorted sound. This gives you a rock type sound found on hundreds of songs.

Wah Pedals

Wah pedals are a great guitar effects pedal. Rather than just an on/off situation this is an expression pedal. It is called a wah pedal because literally, it makes your guitar sound as though it is saying “wah”. This is great for slow and fast lead playing and produces some really great results.

Delay Pedals

This adds an echo effect to your sound. Can be used to layer multiple sounds or, more commonly, and in my case, used to beef up your lead sound. It is a subtle difference that can make such a difference to your playing.

Chorus Pedals

Another popular guitar pedal that adds depth to both your clean and distorted tone is the chorus pedal. This thickens the sound by doubling up notes in layers and altering delays in a very subtle way.

With guitar effects pedals there are massive differences in sound quality. Often the more expensive a pedal is, the better it will be. It is also very true, especially with the examples above, the older the pedal is the better quality sound it will produce. As with most things guitar related, they don’t make things like they used to.

Must-have Checklist: Choosing a Hard Drive

Adding a nice chunk of extra storage space for your computer with a new hard drive can be exciting, like getting a storage shed for the back yard to store and organize tools and toys. However, there are more reasons than storage capacity to buy a hard drive, and size isn’t the only thing that matters when comparing your options.

Why Buy a Hard Drive?

Most people buy hard drives out of necessity – their current hard drive is old or too small or doesn’t work at all. Or they may have recently purchased a computer that came with a drive that had limited storage, so they want to swap the drive out for a bigger one. Smart computer users may buy extra hard drives as a backup solution; and demanding techies and gamers may upgrade their drive for optimal performance.

Jump drives / flash drives / thumb drives and online storage are other popular options for storing and transporting data, but are generally considered to be less robust, temporary solutions compared to hard drives. They are intended to complement a hard drive rather than replace one.

Hard Drive Features

Whatever their reasons for buying a hard drive, shoppers usually compare the following features:

Storage Capacity

At first, those 80 gigabytes of storage may seem like way more than necessary, but as software is added, files are created and information is downloaded, those GBs will fill up fast. Then it’s time to either clean stuff out or buy an additional “container”. So for capacity’s sake, it’s better to go bigger.

Like any storage space, hard drives work best when well-organized so that time is not wasted in search of pieces and parts. Dividing a large hard drive into smaller partitions can help, but the bigger the space, the longer it takes to search it – each and every time. By using several smaller drives instead of one big one, storage capacity is unlimited, backups of data can be made easily, and performance is not sacrificed for size. This is accomplished with RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) technology, where multiple hard drives are grouped together so the computer sees them as one. RAID controllers are bought separately to manage the array (multiple drives).

Speed / Portability

Hard drives have platters that spin, and a read/write head or “needle” that reads them like a record player. Hard drives that

· have platters that spin faster (at higher RPM)

· can transfer information faster (media transfer rate)

· use less power

· are connected to the computer with speed-optimizing cables or cards

These drives can make a big difference in overall computer speed.

Some drives are installed inside a computer, while others can be connected externally. Portable or external hard drives are designed for frequent transport between computers. They generally hold much more information than the largest jump/flash/thumb drives. A general rule for choosing between them is: installed drives perform faster because it takes less time for them to exchange messages with the computer.

Shock Resistance / Heat / Sound

A hardy hard drive goes a long way toward preventing data loss. Shock resistance – how well a hard drive can take being dropped, banged, etc. – is especially important when considering portable drives. This is another good reason for a primary drive to be installed in a computer rather than connected externally.

High-powered drives can generate a lot of heat, which can reduce the life of the drive. The faster or hotter the drive, the more cooling is required. Ways of managing temperature include installing extra fans or upgrading, making sure vents are not covered, and keeping the computer well ventilated, in a cooler room and off the floor.

Some hard drives, especially faster ones or those that are bigger in physical size, can generate a lot of noise. To cut down on noise, look for low-noise disks, compare dBa levels and store the computer in a cabinet rather than out in the open.

Backup / Reliability

Extra hard drives -- especially portable ones -- make great backup solutions. Hard drives used primarily for backup should provide enough storage space to keep three copies of the main drive. For example, if a primary hard drive holds 100 gigabytes, but only 30 gigs are being used, backup drive space should total 90 GB to allow for multiple backups of all software and files. (See the discussion of RAID technology in Storage Capacity above.)

Backups should also be replicated across different technologies. Using a combination of an extra hard drive or RAID array, online data backup and a flash drive for critical information prevents loss of data from mechanical malfunction, loss of that tiny little flash drive, or environmental factors like flooding or fire.

Techie Tip: Don’t put the cart before the horse! The fastest, biggest hard drive is only as good as the computer running it. Although hard drives frequently come with software to help older computers handle the capacity of the drive, some computers simply cannot keep up with high performance drives. Upgrading to a new computer that includes a new hard drive is sometimes the best solution.

can i use a Boss MT-2 (Metal Zone Distortion) as an overdrive / boost pedal? if yes, what's the settings? thx?

I think the best shot you've got is to try turning the gain down to 25% or below. When I do this, the distortion mellows out a lot. Not enough to work well as a boost pedal, per se, but it's the best place to be if you were going to try with it.

I would also turn my guitar's volume down a bit, as that would help clean up a little there, too.

Rolling some of the highs off, and boosting the level would be the other two parts of the equation. Mids to taste, not too much bass.

One of the most important assets to making money online is having your own opt in list. To be more specific, a motivated opt in list that is responsive to your content. If you've been marketing online for a decent amount of time, you understand the truth behind... the money is in the list.
