Gibson SG vs Gibson Firebird V?

i asked this before but i didnt get clear answer. i play alternative rock/powerpop and im the lead guitarist of my band. our band play kind of music like all american rejects, acdc and linkin park so which guitar is better suited for me and tell me some pros and cons. dont go just like tried them out because i did that.

Well, it kinda depends on which SG you're looking at. A comparably priced SG would be the '61 reissue, so I'll assume that's what you're considering - because the Standards and Specials are way less, and the Customs are way more.

The Firebird is famous for it's awesome tone because of the neck-thru-body. I'd prefer that over the SG's... but the 61 reissue has a very kick-asss custom neck that you should check out too. The Firebird dirty bluesy tone is awesome, but judging from the music you play, you're beter off with Rock versatility The upgraded pickups and hardware on the 61 is pretty enticing too. Firebirds have a reputation for coming out of the box needing some work. The 61 by all accounts is beautifully set up in factory like a dream. The Firebird is way heavier. If you decide to upgrade your pickups later, you're going to have way more choices on the SG than the Firebird because of the minis. In terms of the music you play, I think you're better off with the 61 reisue SG or maybe even a cheaper SG and save some money to upgrade your ampage.

All that said... if it were me, I'd buy the Firebird, that Tone, man! That TONE! I love the Blues, though. You're music... SG.
