If you want their exact sound you need the same amps, the same guitar, the same pedals (if they use some) and the same pick. But you should use some sub and put your treble to about 8 and your bass to about 4 or 5 and your mid to about 5. Try the same settings on your pedal and get all the sounds the same volume level. For example, make your pedal the same volume as the amp when the amp is clean.

Electric Bikes - Assisted Pedal Power For More Steam

If this is the first time you have ever come across the concept of electric bikes, you might be surprised to find out that it is not quite what you expected. This is not the electric motor bike or moped as some people think. It is actually nothing quite as complicated, just picture a basic bicycle with no bells or whistles, then add an electric motor, a controller to activate and regulate power and a battery, this is an electric bike. These electrical components can be obtained in DIY kits.

You are still able to pedal this bicycle as you would with a normal bike, but it has added electrical components to assist the rider, and make his riding easier in the instances where this is required.

These bikes are not meant to be used to travel at high speeds, just to be able to give the rider assistance when they need it. It essentially augments human power and makes riding easier. This helps with people who are not fit and are cycling to become so, the older person is also taking to bike riding as a form of exercise to keep healthy, but don't need to tackle hills that might bring on a heart attack, just get the heart rate steadily up. This is where the electric motor comes in.

There are many different sizes, shapes, designs, speeds and models of these bikes for the choosing. Models for the relaxed rider, the sporty rider and the very active too! It is for you to decide what you want, and which category you fit into.

These electric motors can be the chain driven type, or even be fitted in the rear or front wheel hub. The chain driven type is more conspicuously electrical, while bikes with the motor in the wheel hubs are more streamlined.

You get varying degrees of motor strength from around 200w to 700w, it just depends what you want to use them for, or your own particular needs. Batteries are also different and some bikes allow you to choose which battery to use, while the older models don't allow for choice. Three battery types are used nickel metal hydride, lead acid and lithium ion.

The motor is operated by means of a controller; again, it is up to the user to decide where they want this to be fitted. It can be mounted on the handlebars in much the same way as a throttle would be, and it can be activated by the pedals.

At one point in time just before good multi effects processors came along I was a mad scientist of tone stringing effects pedals together to get a good tone and a decent amount of distortion. It was hard find the right formula or chain of pedals that quenched my thirst. But in the end it paid off. Believe it or not I had an IBANEZ SESSIONMAN II that didn't quite have the punch but had great tone so I bought an IBANEZ TUBE SCREAMER to put in front of it in the chain. After working with the knobs a little on both it kicked ass. A TUBE SCREAMER adds that little bit of marshall tube style chirp that normal analog or digital distortion pedals are missing. I say order it. You will have to back off on the distortion on both pedals to find that happy medium so it's not overkill and just causes feedback. I also suggest a noise redution pedal such as the ROCKTRON HUSH. It will help kill alot of the noise that you may get stringing distortion pedals together sometimes causes. Good luck

The best pedal for very smooth sustain is the HM-2 Heavy Metal by Boss. Big difference compared to the DS-1. I have to admit that I changed my pickups for Seymour Duncan which made a big difference in the cleanness in the sound.

With your setup, this is weird because I often record with my old Roland Jazz Chorus vs. you having a Fender Chorus LOL.

You should get a helluva of a good sound with the HM-2 definitely. Why I know this is because I do lots of studio work with many different types of amps and pedals and what I hear through the recording determines if the pedal is quiet or noisy once recorded.

The simple explanation is that the guts of the pedal are removed from the casing, the knobs are relocated to the outside of the guitar (obviously requiring new holes drilled into it), the input and outputs are wired appropriately, and a 9v battery is wired in as the power supply.

The main issues, from my perspective, is that there isn't much space inside most guitar cavities - you are limited as to what you can put inside. I think that the most practical way of doing this would be to re-build the circuitboard into the smallest possible space... this would actually take a degree of skill, as it would require pretty compact circuitry to fit two pedals like that into the space of most guitar's cavities.

Then again, I suppose it depends on how much space you can route out, right?

Usually the more complicated pedals aren't installed onboard - usually its more straightforward effects, like EQ, boosters, distortion, buffer preamps, that kind of thing. The more complicated the effect, ie the more it can do, the more circuitry is required, which means more things to cram into a smaller space, and that means you have to make a very tight layout in terms of your components - can't waste space in your PCB layout, that type of thing.

I've included links to things that *are* typically installed - ie relatively straightforward, and you don't have to build anything from scratch. Notice how none of them involve chorus or delay effects?

Anyways, all that said, I did actually find a page that talked about wiring pedals into a guitar. Link is below, along with a Phase 90 schematic if you need it for reference.

It isn't a straightforward process... I personally would prefer to keep it simple, and stick with things like buffers and EQ, since the component count is small and the power drain is relatively small.

Anyways, I'm surprised I managed to find a page about it - it took a while, and I found it more or less by accident.

The primary use of the Boss DS-1 is to get an overdriven guitar sound.

Without knowing just how familiar you are with the guitar and/or pedals:

Connect your electric guitar into the IN side of the pedal using a standard 1/4 inch instrument cable. Connect the OUT side of the pedal to your amplifier.

Turn the LEVEL knob on the pedal all the way down.

Turn the DIST knob all the way up.

Now slowly bring the LEVEL knob up to a reasonable listening level and you should hear a very distorted guitar sound.

Cut back on the DIST for less distortion, if it is too much at full blast.

Guitar Effects Pedals

If you are serious about the guitar then you may want to consider investing in guitar effects. Guitar effects pedals come in lots of different shapes and sizes. Their main use is to change the way your guitar sounds.

There are thousands of different guitar effects pedals to choose from some new some rare and old – some create sounds that alters your guitar sound so much it is almost unrecognisable as a guitar sound.

Guitar effects pedals come in many different formats. You can get he single effects units – often called stomp boxes and chain them together or you can opt for a multi effects unit that combines lots of effects in one box. There are also other formats such as rack mounted effects units and processors.

For the purpose of this article I am going to illustrate a couple of the most commonly used guitar effects pedals that I consider an essential. I personally use these pedals. These can be easily chained together in whatever way you choose and changed to get the sound that you want from your guitar.

Distortion / overdrive pedals

Whilst the above is in fact two separate pedals the effect they produce are similar. I personally own a distortion pedal but tend to use the amplifiers overdrive effect to get the sound I want.. Basically they take your clean sound and convert it to an overdriven or distorted sound. This gives you a rock type sound found on hundreds of songs.

Wah Pedals

Wah pedals are a great guitar effects pedal. Rather than just an on/off situation this is an expression pedal. It is called a wah pedal because literally, it makes your guitar sound as though it is saying “wah”. This is great for slow and fast lead playing and produces some really great results.

Delay Pedals

This adds an echo effect to your sound. Can be used to layer multiple sounds or, more commonly, and in my case, used to beef up your lead sound. It is a subtle difference that can make such a difference to your playing.

Chorus Pedals

Another popular guitar pedal that adds depth to both your clean and distorted tone is the chorus pedal. This thickens the sound by doubling up notes in layers and altering delays in a very subtle way.

With guitar effects pedals there are massive differences in sound quality. Often the more expensive a pedal is, the better it will be. It is also very true, especially with the examples above, the older the pedal is the better quality sound it will produce. As with most things guitar related,  they don’t make things like they used to.
