are the top 4 string on the guitar the same as the bass?
can i use them to learn how to play the 4 string bass guitar?
The top strings are the treble (the thin) ones. If you mean the lower - the basses - then yes, these are tuned E A D G (low to high), just as a 4-string bass. In that respect you can learn which notes to play, just like on a bass.
However, a bass has a longer reach, heavier strings, different feel, and is played differently than a guitar is. So you will eventually need a bass guitar in order to actually learn how to play one.
