Please Help.. Trying to wire a new phone jack using CAT5e cable and RJ25/45 phone jacks?
I'm in the process of connecting all my RJ45 connectors throughout my home. I prewired my home when it was built with CAT5 cable. I now want to add the RJ45 connectors for my home internet. When the contractor installed the phone jacks they used the face plate phone jacks. Little background, I ran two CAT5e cables through each electrical box so one could be used for a phone jack and the other for my home network internet. In order to install my RJ45 jacks i need to replace the wall plate phone jack with RJ25/45 jacks so i can insert them together with my new face plate. Well everything I find tells you how to decode the old RED, BLACK, YELLOW, GREEN wires to the Blue/Blue white, Orange/Orange White wires.. which i can also decode on the face plate jack. But nothing I can find tells me which wires to connect if you are using CAT5 cable with CAT5 jacks. I didn't work for me when i tried to match wire colors as you do when connecting for internet. Did i do something wrong?
