Maple Neck
is there arything i could or should do to my maple neck guitar whilst it has its strings off.?
its a fender u.s strat
is the tremlo bridge thing surposed to sit flat on the body?
You can set the bridge whichever way you prefer but of course you can only see the effect when you put the strings back on and tune to normal pitch because the bridge is balanced in tension between the pull of the strings and the pull of the springs attached to the bridge block.
If you set the bridge block flat then you cannot use the vibrato/tremolo arm to raise the pitch of notes, only to lower them. If you set it raised up off the body then you can change the pitch of the note up or down.
As a general rule, don't keep the strings off too long, when a guitar is set up correctly, it is best not to disturb it too much (taking all the strings off at once removes all that tension in one direction on the neck). If you are just changing the strings, do it one at a time.
