Buying a Children’s Electric Guitar
When it comes to children's electric guitars there is only one real difference between them and what an adult will play. This main difference is the size of the instrument. In most cases children's electric guitars will be either half or three quarters the size of full size electric guitar that many adults will play.
But what size guitar you purchase for your child will depend on how old they are and how tall they are. If your child is not over 7 years of age and would like to learn how to play an electric guitar then you would be better of purchasing a half size guitar for them.
Whereas for children over the age of 7 or if your child is considered tall for their age then the ¾ size guitar would be far better for them. However, be aware that when a child reaches of the age of 11 you may find that they are better suited to having a full size guitar instead. In fact most children over the age of 11 have long enough arms that they won't find it difficult to play such a large instrument.
When it comes to purchasing the electric guitar for your child it is a good idea to visit your local music store with them. Ask to see the various models on offer and get the child to sit down with the instrument to see if they can move their hands and arms freely over the instrument. If they find it difficult to handle then the chances of them wanting to develop their guitar playing skills further will be reduced. It is also important that you select the right size instrument for your child so that when being played it doesn't cause strain to be placed on other parts of their body.
