Guitar players, replacing speaker in amp question?
I have a amp that has a stock 6 ohm speaker. I found a good deal on a celestion vintage 30 that I would like to replace it with, but it is 16 ohm
How much power would I lose?
And would I still get that vintage 30 tone from the speaker considering my current amp came stock with a 6 ohm speaker?
I am positive it is 6 ohms, I looked a few times.
It is a Raven amp. It isnt a misprint, it is 6 ohms. The reason to go for the 16 is cause I have a good deal on a used one. But I probably wont do it if I am going to lose 2/3 of the power
6 Ohms is a very odd speaker impedance. Sure that the "1" hasn't rubbed off (not taking the mickey) because I've never seen that in any amp before. If it really is you'll lose nearly 2/3 the power by putting in a 16 ohm speaker. You won't hurt anything, it'll just be "quieter". Shouldn't affect the tone very much if at all.
