Should i get an American Fender Strat or a Mexican Fender Strat?
This is gonna be my first guitar ill buy so im barely learning. I don't want to get one that im not gonna be satisfied with. Which one should i get? Which one sounds better? Which one is better in the long run?
If you're just learning and don't really know a lot, you don't need an American Strat. A Mexican Standard will do you just fine. Fender uses Alder on both. The main difference you see is in hardware and pickups. The Alder isn't really better on the American guitars, maybe a higher grade because it has a nice grain, but tonally it's right there with the Alder Fender uses in Mexico. The Americans have a 2 point tremolo where the Mexican has a 6 hole vintage, nothing wrong with either. The Americans have Alnico V pickups where the Mexicans have ceramic.
The Mexican Strat will suit your needs at this point. You don't really know what "good" sounds like yet, so why spend over $1000 on a guitar if you're a beginner? It doesn't make much sense because you won't really be getting your money's worth. With a Mexican, it's cheaper for you and when you get better, upgrade the pickups and the hardware.
People who tell you that American is the only way to go really don't know how to work with their gear. They buy into the ideal that if it ain't American, it ain't good. Don't let that stigma get to you. Those people don't know how to extract the best from their guitars. Even with upgrades, you'll still have spent less money and your guitar will sound pretty damn good at that.
